    Exterior Door Policy Information
    Posted on 03/26/2018
Hello Rainier Beach Families, Students, and Staff:

We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously at Rainier Beach High School. Due to events around the country and concerns within our own building, we have decided to implement a “No Exterior Door Opening" Policy during school hours (8:55 AM - 3:45 PM). This is also an effort to better align with safety practices across the district. When staff and students open doors, it allows for potential threats to enter the building, putting everyone at risk.

We will be giving warnings for one week (March 26th-30th) to individuals who open and/or enter through a door other than the main school entrance (by the front office) during school hours. It is our goal to have a school-wide understanding of this policy by the end of the week. This is to ensure that we are doing our best to protect every individual in our building. Students who open or enter through an exterior door will be sent home starting in April.

During lunch time students will be able to use the West Henderson doors by room 160 and the back-parking lot doors up until the bell rings. At this point the doors will be locked and students will need to walk around to the front of the building to enter the school. Students will then go to room 104 to obtain a late pass and proceed to class. Security will monitor exterior doors for the first 10 minutes after each lunch. Thank you for helping to keep our school a safe learning environment. Please take a moment to explain to your student the importance of this new policy.
