    Graffiti Incident at Our School

    Dear Rainier Beach Families:

Rainier Beach is dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with parents and providing the best education for students. A key to that partnership is open, honest and timely communication.

Yesterday afternoon, we discovered graffiti on our property. The graffiti found in a girls’ bathroom contained some derogatory language and a threat to the school. We immediately contacted the Seattle Police Department (SPD) and the District’s Safety and Security Office to investigate this incident.

The District takes all potential threats seriously, however, most threats are not found to be credible. SPD has completed their investigation and the student has been identified.  SPD has determined that there is no credible threat to the safety and security of our students and school.

I am very proud of how our families, students, and staff are responding to this incident. Our staff will discuss the importance of respect, inclusiveness, appropriate communications, and personal safety. One of our goals is to allow students to talk about their concerns and support them as they deal with social issues and safety concerns.  It would be helpful if all families also take the opportunity to have these conversations at home.

Please be assured that the safety and security of your children is our number one priority at Rainier Beach.

    Sincerely,

    Ivory Brooks

    Rainier Beach Principal
