Dear Rainier Beach High School Families,

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Yesterday, one of our scholars was impacted by violence in the community outside the Rainier Beach Community Center. The incident was witnessed by other RBHS scholars.

I am sharing this information with you directly, so you know how we are supporting the impacted student, their family, and staff.

Please keep our scholar and their family in your thoughts and prayers. RBHS is a family, when one of us is harmed we all grieve. I spoke to our student’s family this morning. They shared our scholar is stable and recovering. RBHS staff will not be sharing the student’s name out of respect for the family and their wishes.

Today, additional resources were provided by central office including counseling, security, and lunches were served on campus by the nutrition services department. In an abundance of caution, we closed our campus today and kept all students at the school for lunch in addition to canceling all after school activities. Counseling and supports will continue at the school as needed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
