Back to School Family Letter

Welcome Back Beach Family!

August 19, 2021

Dear Families of Rainier Beach High School,

Welcome back to another great year at Beach!  We hope this email finds you well, safe and healthy!  It is with great anticipation and enthusiasm to welcome every Viking scholar back to full time in-person learning.  This last year proved to be challenging, but we are resilient and want to reassure you that our entire staff is here to support you and our scholars each day.  Superintendent Jones has launched the “180 Days of Excellence” campaign with Black Excellence at the forefront.  We are continuing our commitment to ensure that equity and antiracist practices are at the core of our work and guide every decision we make!

Below, please find important information you will need to know to ensure your scholar is prepared for a successful start to this school year.  This is a lot of information, so you may want to pull out your calendar to plug in these dates.  Please pay special attention to all the online links on this document so that you can easily complete the forms.  Please make sure you complete the Free and Reduced lunch form whether you qualify or not, as this allows our school to receive additional funding to support our scholars.

Last school year, we experienced unprecedented increased communication with our families, and we would like to continue this to ensure you stay up to date with the latest school news and health and safety information.  Please complete the communication survey link here that allows you to update your contact info and to provide us with your preference of email, text, etc.  so, we don’t overwhelm you with information.

We are mindful that we are still in a pandemic and the safety of your children is our priority.  Please read the health and safety expectations and guidelines on this link for all scholars and staff as it relates to COVID guidelines and the mental health resources we provide in partnership with our community organizations.

Activities, Activity Card and School Photos

Activity Cards and School Photos will be scheduled in mid-September.  Please know that purchasing an activity card is no longer required to participate in athletics or clubs/activities but are necessary to fund school events and activities.  We know they serve as a form of ID and we will work with our new ASB officers to establish incentives to purchasing a card.  If you have questions about activities, please email Asst. Principal Patu at alpatu@seattleschools.org.
