December Newsletter from Principal Patu

December Newsletter from Principal Patu

Greetings, Viking Families,

Happy Holidays! We are one week away from winter break, and we hope you and your family are well. The end of first semester is January 28th and these grades will be recorded on your scholar’s transcript. We have been providing multiple opportunities during the school day and after school to support scholars’ academic progress. Our staff continues to collaborate and sharpen our instructional practices as we build our instructional powerhouse. We have also begun Saturday School to offer even more support for all scholars. Please be sure to check the Source and speak with your scholar to ensure they are on track and take advantage of the extra supports provided. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your scholar’s teacher or their counselor.

This month we reviewed Quarter 1 data attached to this letter. We are making great progress on the three initiatives we focused on this school year: cell phone policy, attendance, and closed campus. The data shows when we address and eliminate barriers to learning, our kids respond positively, and they have. Our goal is to minimize all course failures for semester 1 and we need your partnership to make this happen. What can parents and families do? Help us get your scholar to school on time, regular check ins with your scholar about attendance, grades, extracurricular activities, and their friend group, let us know if you need extra support for your scholar or your family.

Thank you for every family who attended your scholar’s student led conference in November. It was awesome meeting with all of you and listening to your scholar share their strengths, challenges, and hopes for their future.  Below, please find more important information and upcoming events.  Take care!

Blessings,
Principal Patu

Saturday School – January 11th and January 25th

Saturday School for any student who needs extra support from our staff to complete assignments or make up tests or projects. Please consider having your scholar attend if they are receiving below a C in their current courses. We will be sending out reminders for all students who are on the D/E list (have one or more Ds or Es) via email and Talking Points.

Start on Time and Show up to Learn Campaign

Starting January 6th, we are launching our Start on Time campaign to get our scholars to school on time. We average close to 250 tardies to school each day for various reasons. Our goal is to chop that in half by the end of March 2025. Help us help your scholar get to school on time and win prizes for the entire family. We will be pulling lists for all scholars who come on time each month and enter their name in a drawing for prizes for the family. We are giving away SWAG, gift cards, etc.
